Question:
How soon after my rhinoplasty surgery can I get back to my daily running routine. I run several miles a day. Are there any concerns with being too active too soon?
Answer:
The most important thing is that your nose be healed before you start doing any significant running. The pounding that happens from running will induce significant swelling and also, unless the bones are solid, there is always a chance that a shift can take place if there is too much nasal trauma from running. However, usually within two weeks, patients can be out lightly jogging and within four to six weeks they should be able to go back to a regular running schedule. I often tell patients that it is important to get back to their exercise within 10 to 14 days so as not to lose their health and their tone. Anything done in moderation at this point should cause no problems with a previous rhinoplasty.
